Barbara
Vice President and General Manager
Teledyne Energy Systems
As a role model for women in STEM, what encouragement or advice would you give other women who are still establishing themselves?
Learn as much as you can, be willing to take on any new
task, and find a mentor to help show you the way. Embrace
the challenge of being a woman in a male-dominated field,
and be passionate about what you do. Great things come
from hard work and perseverance.
Moving towards several different possibilities to solve
problems creates gateways that open our minds and allows us
to learn continuously.
What excites you most about your work at Teledyne?
The combination of the highly engineered, challenging and
unique products that we make coupled with the small
company, family-feel atmosphere at Teledyne are what keep
me excited about coming to work every day. No two days are
ever the same and our highly talented staff is a pleasure to
work with. After 23 years at TESI, I still continue to learn new
things each week.
Looking back, what career advice would you give yourself
from your early days in college or your first job from your
current perspective?
Pursue as much training and education as you can early on to
help find your passion. If you are not challenged with your
work, speak up and be open to other opportunities. Take
advantage of professional networking opportunities to learn
and help grow your career.
