Tell us a little about your current role and what you enjoy most about it?
I lead the contract services team globally (excluding USA) and I am a member of the Corporate Attorney team, providing advice, guidance, direction and compliance for all contracting related activity. It is a wonderfully diverse and challenging role that provides the opportunity to work with an amazing team of talented and enthusiastic people on a range of complex files and matters that are hugely varied depending on the business, the jurisdiction, the topic and the outcome that is needed.
Who is someone that empowered you in your youth? How did they empower you?
I was blessed to have an amazing number of positive and strong female role models whilst at school, that included my English Literature teacher, who was unashamedly living her life as a Bronte novel, and my Criminal Law teacher, who also happened to be a devoted practicing nun. This eclectic and individual collection of women empowered me to always be entirely authentic, to embrace my passions, to be tolerant and supportive, to seek out challenge and thrive on creating solutions. They also embodied the philosophy that there is no ‘normal’, there are instead just individuals with all their infinite variety. I also learnt from my teachers that it’s OK to take the long way round as the journey is as important as the destination because that’s where the experiences happen, so you really have to enjoy the journey. This proved to be a vital concept for me at various stages of my life, when acting with integrity was always the right decision. This grounding - to be strong, confident and comfortable in myself and kind to and supportive of others - has enabled me to be the woman I am today, both in and out of work. Teledyne creates an environment that fosters and supports this and it is this philosophy that I try to share with my team, and seeing my team and our Teledyne business succeed makes me very proud and happy.
