Tell us a little about your current role and what you enjoy most about it?

Being in Internal Audit, I gain exposure to many different areas of the business and processes and am constantly learning. I feel rewarded knowing that I play an active role in protecting Teledyne daily and actively work with management to improve the business.

Who is the most influential/empowering woman you know? How does she inspire you?

My greatest support of inspiration is my grandmother. Born and raised in a small village in Pakistan, there was no concept of education, especially for women. Despite battling extreme poverty and herself being illiterate, she made it a point to provide the best education to her seven children, including four daughters. Her struggles proved fruitful, as all her sons came to the US on 2 scholarships around 30 years ago and two of her daughters went on to become doctors. There was a lot of criticism from relatives on educating her daughters, but she stood firm and worked odd jobs to make her dreams a reality.

Who is someone that empowered you in your youth? How did they empower you?

From my grandmother, I learned anything is possible if you are committed and believe in yourself. My dad has always supported and encouraged me. When I wanted to purse Chartered Accountancy in Pakistan, a field that is extremely challenging and dominated by men, my dad was the only one who believed in me. Despite facing constant criticism and discouragement from nearly everyone, I am the first Chartered Accountant female in my family.
