Teledyne Technologies Introduces WaterSabreTM
LOS ANGELES - August 26, 2002 - Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) announced today that Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. has received its first order for its WaterSabreTM disaster response system from the New York Police Department. The NYPD is the nation's first law enforcement agency to place an order for this new product, which is designed to investigate and neutralize suspected explosive devices.
The WatreSabreTM is a remotely operated, ultra high-pressure water-jet cutting system, mounted on a hazardous duty robot, and fully integrated on an emergency-response vehicle. This first-responder system is designed to perform in hazardous or adverse conditions. This mobile system is self-contained and once on site can be placed into operation in a very short period of time. The system enables the operator to control the robot from a safe distance, up to approximately 1,300 feet. Cameras mounted on the robot provide a view of the cutting process as well as investigation of suspected explosive or hazardous devices.
Teledyne first demonstrated the capabilities of the WaterSabreTM to the NYPD in May 2001 and continued to work closely with NYPD to refine the system to meet the requirements of the law-enforcement and first-responder communities.
"Beginning a partnership with the courageous men and women of the nation's law enforcement agencies is a proud moment for all of us at Teledyne," said Robert Mehrabian, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Teledyne Technologies.
