TELEDYNE BROWN TO DESIGN NEW BIOLOGICAL WARFARE AGENT DETECTOR TESTING SYSTEM
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (December 7, 2009) - Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. (TBE) announced today that the company, with Lockheed Martin Corporation, has been awarded a contract from the Department of Defense Joint Project Manager for Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Contamination Avoidance to design a state of the art test chamber for biological warfare agent detection systems.
The contract valued at $3 million calls for Teledyne Brown to design a Whole System Live Agent Test (WSLAT) System. The WSLAT System represents a unique, "leap ahead" in the capability of the DoD to fully test the performance of biological warfare agent detection systems for deployment with U.S. military forces.
"The challenge of designing this innovative biological agent test system exercises the full capabilities of Teledyne Brown and validates the company as a leading technology provider to the Department of Defense," said Rex D. "The WSLAT Critical Design project affords TBE the opportunity to expand on the previous design work and participate in one of the most exciting and innovative new test systems in the Department of Defense."
Planned for use at Dugway Proving Ground, Utah, the WSLAT system will consist of a controlled environmental chamber to test the effectiveness of systems to detect biological aerosols. The system will be designed to operate within an environmentally controlled building and will incorporate sophisticated safety measures to contain biological materials.
