Teledyne Brown's Bathurst Honored with NASA’s Distinguished Public Service Medal
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (June 5, 2008) — Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. (TBE) announced today that Jim Bathurst was honored by the National Aeronautics and Space Agency (NASA) with its Distinguished Public Service Medal, the highest NASA award presented to a non-government employee.
The award is granted to individuals whose distinguished accomplishments contributed substantially to the NASA mission.
Bathurst, a co-developer of the International Space Station (ISS) payload display assessment process, has made significant contributions to the scientific research performed on the ISS. As a principal instructor to the ISS payload community, Bathurst teaches the design process for creating usable displays, critiques developer’s displays, and creates alternate user-friendly designs.
“This is a very great honor for Jim and Teledyne Brown,” said Rex D. Geveden, president, Teledyne Brown Engineering. “Jim’s contribution to the scientific research performed onboard the International Space Station has been invaluable. His expertise in the field of human factors design and integration has been an essential resource to payload developers in their preparation and development of operational concepts and flight products.”
Bathurst provided and also led essential technical backup support to the development and verification of crew displays on ISS payloads. He also developed and teaches a Payload Operations Data File (PODF) training class on the application of task analysis, decision-action-diagramming and display design
The award was presented during a special ceremony at NASA Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
