Teledyne Brown Engineering Wins $13.3 Million Westinghouse Contract
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (April 27, 2000)-Teledyne Brown Engineering, Inc. announced today it has been awarded a $13.3 million subcontract by Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC) for a wide range of program responsibilities on the Department of Energy's Americium/Curium Vitrification Program.
WSRC is the primary contractor to the Department of Energy on the program. Teledyne Brown Engineering will provide WSRC with engineering design, fabrication, testing, training and support services for a vitrification system that is designed to stabilize, and contain in solid form, radioactive materials for future disposition.
Vitrification is a process that immobilizes radioactive elements by encapsulating them into glass. The process enables workers to safely store the elements until disposition is determined.

"We're taking our resume¢ and applying it to a new market area for us, the Department of Energy. This award is the first of what we expect will be many successful applications of our heritage and capabilities."
McGrath added the contract also proves Teledyne Brown's capabilities to engineer first-of-a-kind and one-of-a-kind systems for its new customers.
The contract begins immediately and will continue through September 2003. The entire program will take place at Teledyne Brown's main campus in Huntsville. No radioactive materials will be processed in or transported to Huntsville.
