Teledyne's Communications Management Unit Chosen By American Airlines
LOS ANGELES - August 21, 2002 - Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE: TDY) today announced that its Teledyne Controls Communications Management Unit (CMU) has been chosen by American Airlines for retrofit installation on selected MD-80 aircraft.
"This selection by American, combined with other airlines recently selecting the Teledyne CMU, is a clear indication that Teledyne has re-established itself as a market leader in air/ground data link technology," said Robert Mehrabian, chairman, president, and chief executive officer of Teledyne Technologies.
The Teledyne CMU will replace existing Aircraft Communications Addressing and Reporting System (ACARS) management units providing enhanced capabilities such as Aircraft Condition Monitoring System (ACMS) reporting and Quick Access Recording (QAR), which are functions typically provided by the data acquisition and recording system on newer aircraft.
